Re: 9x9 go

I have a little Japanese book of 9c9 pro handicap go, called Mi-Ni Go
(Mi/Ni in katakana). It has 178 game records, played by 1 to 5 dan pro.
Black usually opens at the center, and white responds 3-4 or 3-5. These
were mostly 5.5 point komi games. I haven't entered the games. But you
can probably find a copy of this book in Japan.

I also have a database of Japanese pro 9x9 games, but I haven't ever
tried to reverse engineer the format.

I downloaded about 300,000 games from IGS a couple of years ago and
separated out all the Dan level even 19x19 games to build a fuseki database.
These 40,000 games are on the Many Faces of Go CD-ROM. But I threw away
the 9x9
games. For training data the IGS games are probably more useful than the
pro games. I used anonymous FTP from nuri to get them. They weren't
always on line, but when I found them missing for several weeks I sent mail
to tweet and he put them back and told me how to find them. They were
organized
into directories by year and month, with a new compressed tar file for
every few
days.
