I also think this approach - searching on "chunks" of moves or small
sequences more or less forced as people seems to do- will pay off.
This would layer the search in 2 steps, unless you have a very good
library of "small sequences" (aka josekis) to rely on.

I've been thinking about it for the last years, but it's no trivial :-)

IMO it will aply mostly to live &dead, and tactics in general, leaving
the answer about if cuting was useful for the eval after.
