If you read the archives you'll find many messages by David describing how
Many Faces thinks, a lot of it giving nearly as much detail as if he'd
published his source.

There are commercial reasons that people don't release their source or their
'secrets'. 
It seems all the top programs have hand-coded patterns. Even
'from-first-principles' Go4++.  So maybe there are no big secrets, and all
you need is lots of time and tuning. The two top programs at FOST were by
full-time teams of two years (?), and the next two were full-time
programmers (of many years), then another full-time team.

Give away the source code and the income stops, so development will stop.
