 OpenGo has been tried e.g. pubgo. It failed to generate much interest.

 The problems sharing code are manyfold. 

 1. Large complex programs are difficult for people other than
the authors to understand. This is even more true for GO programing
because the ideas tend to be very absract.

 2. If you have an existing program it is unlikely that you will
find much use of another persons program without doing a lot of
interfacing work.
