Re: Go software
I'm juat a lurker on this list, but I am interested in this talk of shared
code because it increases the chance that I might write some code one day.
This thing is I am never going to have the resources to write a full
go-playing program, but there are other programming projects that could
use the same code base. For example programs for presenting go plrblems,
teaching about joseki, etc. These sorts of programs could use the same GUI
and routines for maintaining the state of the board, playing moves and
removing captured stones, disallowing illegal moves, etc. And also they
might use the same tactical cruncher in some circumstances.
I suppose that what I am trying to say is that when writing any of this
stuff then don't just think about writing go playing software. If you can
make it sufficiently general with little extra work then it would have
other uses.
Yours,
Tim.
