Mathematical algorithms can be patented. For example, most of the encryption
algorithms are patented, such as RC4 and IDEA. To apply for a patent the
person must disclose every detail of the algorithm. Thus it will be available
for anyone interested to read and study it. This is the reason why Coca Cola
never patented it's secrete formular. For example, if Handtalk is not
copyrighted in Korea, Silver Igo and Hamlet team can legally use it's content
in Korea. Myself personally for against any attempt to copyright or patent a
computer Go algorithm, especially when the algorithm is in a 15 kyu level.
