The First CGF Computer Go Tournament: First Results
The First CGF Computer Go Tournament was held in Tsukuba, Japan on July
23-24, 1999. It just finished 2 hours ago.
There were 28 participants, including all the top programs. 15 Japanese, 13
foreign entries. 9 rounds, 'modified Swiss' system.
1. Go4++, M. Reiss, 8 wins 1 loss (to Haruka)
2. Haruka, R. Kawa
3. Goemate, Z. Chen
4. FunGo, Y. Park
5. Wulu, X. Lei et al. all 7 wins 2 losses
Congratulations to the Winners, especially to Michael who finally won a big
tournament after so many second and third places.
Haruka is a very strong program. It's not new, it is being sold in Japan as
'Igo Ichiban', but it's the first time it has participated in a tournament.
It was leading the tournament 7:0 after beating Go4++ and Goemate, but
stumbled in the last two rounds against Wulu and FunGo.
More on Monday. Complete results will be posted later on the CGF page.
