Some people disagree that common sense can't be hard coded. One of these
people (dr. Lenat) decided to proof ones and for all that common sense can
be hard-coded. He started 15 years ago and has developed the Cyc knowledge
base, which is a huge (> 1,000,000) collection of facts about the world we
live in.
I have not seen it, let alone tried it, but I read a number of positive
articles from guys who before were really convinced it couldn't be done. And
I mean really convinced, some of these guys wrote several books about the
implicit impossibility!
