Re: computer-go: Correct moves?
In chess, a singular concept (capture the king), combined with very limited
moves (about 35 per turn) leaves very limited area for "unorthodox"
procedures or moves. There is 95% of the time (except for opening game)
only 1 or 2 "good" moves, and hence, visualizing a "line" is easy.
In go, however, there is no sigular concept (except take as much territory
as possible). Even though you can capture a group, it may not be what you
want to do at the moment. Perhaps moving off to another area of the board
would be better? or maybe you want to just relinquish an area of the board
and focus your attention elsewhere? This means that there are no "correct"
moves in go (IMHO) except for small joseki patterns (8x8 at most in size).
But even in joseki, there are many joseki patterns matched on the board at
any given point in time... so there are many "good" moves and even more
still. So it would be almost impossible to create a "line" except for a
small area of the board.
