Re: computer-go: 1st dan+ question

Localized area. I analyze each fight in isolation. Usually
there is only one big fight on the board that needs deep analysis.
I might look 10 to 20 moves ahead. More if the fight is simple, with
lots of forcing moves. When there is no big fight, I don't do much
lookahead, just think strategiacally about the position to find the
direction of play, then choose a reasonable move. If I am thinking
about an invasion or deep reduction I might do a little reading, but this is
mainly thinking about the standard sequences for the local shape. Some of
these are pretty long, but I wouldn't call it lookahead. For example on
a 3-3 invasion, I will think about the 2 or 3 reasonable resulting
positions, which might be 10 to 15 moves ahead, but I don't usually
play out the sequence in my mind, just visualize the final shape.

I'm AGA 2 or 3 dan.
