computer-go: Computer Go survey paper - request for comments
Hello all,
on http://www.brl.ntt.co.jp/people/mueller/ps/Go2000.pdf.gz (compressed pdf)
or http://www.brl.ntt.co.jp/people/mueller/ps/Go2000.ps.gz (compressed
postscript)
there is a draft of a survey paper on computer Go that I just wrote. It
will be the Go chapter of a book about the state of the art in game
programming, which is edited by Jonathan Schaeffer and Jaap van den Herik.
It will contain about 20 articles, one per game plus a few papers on
general search techniques. Some of these articles will also appear as a
special issue of AI Journal.
I realize that there are still a number of shortcomings and omissions in my
draft, so I'm asking you all for your feedback in order to improve it. The
main problem is that there is such a wealth of material that it is very
hard to put it all into 30 pages. So with some important topics such as
machine learning or combinatorial games I have done little more than list
some of the papers in that field. The reference section is already quite
long, but if I'm missing something important there (or if I'm listing
something not so important...), please tell me. For example, I would like
to include a complete list of all Ph.D. theses on computer Go.
Other topics that should probably get more coverage than now are:
- ko fights
- problems with end of games, rules
- how to count the score
etc.
Please send me your opinions on what to add to the paper, and what to cut.
Note that the total length should not increase.
Thank you for your help
Martin
