I  figured it was your  terminology that confused Vincent.  Because in
Chess as well  as Go  selectivity is  supposed to make  a program play
much stronger, and yet it's considered something that is slower.

In fact  I  have often heard the   term slow connected  with smart and
intelligent  (as   far as  computer   games  are concerned)   and fast
connected with stupid or  not  taking  time to   do the  smart  thing.
Sometimes chess programs  are characterized  as  "fast and stupid"  or
"slow and smart".
