computer-go: INFO Europ. Computer Go Championship AUG2000
The annual European Go Congress (EGC) this year was organized by the german Go
association DGoB (Deutscher Go Bund >http://www.dgob.de<).
The HITACHI European Go Congress 2000
July, 29th - August, 12th
in Berlin - Strausberg
like every year included
the 44th European Go championship (since 1957),
many different Go-tournaments
(9x9; 13x13; 21x21; 13x13 Blind Go; Rengo; Team Go; Pair Go; Chaos Go; ...)
and also (since 1987) the
European Computer Go Championship Tournament held on August, 9th 2000
Tournament director: Prof. Dr. Ingo Althöfer
with five participants:

In the evening of the computer tournament day, there was a fascinating public
demonstration of Computer-Go: a "3-brain" match between
White: SAIJO Masataka (8 pro dan) - Nagoya, Japan (Nihon Kiin)
Black: "3-brain" consisting of
{ ManyFacesOfGo 11 beta (D.Fotland), american Computer-Go champion 2000
{ GoAhead (Dr. Peter Woitke), european Computer-Go champion 2000
{ the audiance (participants of the EGC 2000)
This game was organized and the idea was developed by Prof. Dr. Ingo Althöfer:
The Participants of the EGC 2000 had to choose between two move candidates
provided by the computer programs ManyFaces and GoAhead. If both programs did
agree on the move to be played, there was no choice at all.
