Hmmm...  I really hope someone here would be more focusing on academic aspects about this topic.
As to the relationship of algorithm with hardware, I agree with you on that point. Actually we cannot wait for and hope fast machines would tackle the difficulties in go game, although I know that first attempts would be done on supercomputers.
What I talked in my idea is that I wish someone who has worked on game engines can think about this problem and give some statements and comments on this go game engine, if I can tell him what this engine is like.
