In this case, computer can do much faster than human, less than 1 ms. What I
want to comment here is an observation I found. I'm not sure it's already
discovered by people in the field of vision science. I have a venican blind
on my window with the strip direction vertical. One dayI had the blind almost
closed with an opening about several mm in each opening. I still can see
people walk by pass my window about 20 meters away. It's in a cloudy day.
Accidently I moved my head horizontally vertical to the blind strip
direction. Then an amazing thing happened. The figure of the person becomes
a white profile in the background of surounding, like being cut off a piece
of white paper. This seems indicate that human vision process involves
several stages and seperate processes. When we see a person, first a parallel
process register the shape of the person only. Only in later stages, we begin
to fill in the details. When I moved my head, apparently there was not enough
time for my brain to fill in the details of the figure. Thus, I only see a
blank or white figure.
