computer-go: computer Go in Dublin
The European Go Congress will be held in Dublin, Ireland, for
the two weeks July 21st to August 4th. Some details are
available at
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Pressbox/9586/euro2001.html
It will include a computer Go event, sponsored by Fujitsu
Siemens Computers.
I would like to know the opinion of possible entrants about the
schedule for this computer Go event.
The organisers of the main Go events plan to have both
Wednesdays as "rest days", in which no Go is scheduled. On
Wednesday July 25th there will be a coach trip to Japanese
gardens. On Wednesday August 1st there will be a coach trip to
a prehistoric site. One possibility is to hold the computer Go
on one of these days, so that entrants are also able to enter
all of the main Go tournaments. This will mean that we have
only one day for the computer Go.
Another possibility is to hold the computer Go over two days.
This will mean that entrants cannot compete in all the rounds of
the main Go tournament.
Will people who are likely to enter the computer Go please let
me know which possibility they would prefer. If you prefer a
single Wednesday, please let me know which Wednesday.
Also, what are people's views on time limits? If we only have
one day for the event, one-hour time limits means that we can
have only three or four rounds. Will people accept 40-minute
time limits?
