For me, the location of the edge of the board is part of the pattern, not 
an attribute of a point.

Just-taken-ko is not part of the pattern knowledge.  So patterns might 
suggest illegal ko captures
that have to be filtered out later.

Today I have 1777 patterns.  Adding more patterns will help somewhat, but 
Many Faces already
generates pretty good moves.  When it plays bad moves it is more likely to 
be an evaluation error
than a missing pattern.
