   You are misinterpreting this. This is a pragmatic approach. If black cannot 
   demonstrate life, the stones *are dead by definition*. It may well be that a 
   stronger player might have been able to live, but that does not matter in the 
   context of a game.

Yes, I get the point.  Probably in over 99% of the cases, especially with
competent players this will match reality.
