Because in the context of this discussion, the "score" is based on the
opinion of the players, not on actual territory calculations.  In this
example given by John, a player changed his mind after his first pass,
which may be silly, but legal.

   If you make the "as-is" score "everything alive" you should never have
   a disagreement.

I think as-is   means  Tromp/Taylor area  calculation,  inclding empty
points OWNED by players.
