It still does, once properly enclosed. For example try:
11 . . . . . . . .
10 . . . , . . . .
9 X X . . . . . .
8 . X . . . . . .
7 . X X X . . . .
6 . O O X X X . .
5 . . . O . X . .
4 . . O O . X . .
3 . O X X X X . .
2 . O X . . . . .
1 O O X . . . . .

GoTools can get very slow and unreliable with open problems (i.e. not enclosed within a solid line of stones). Thomas is working on it, so this limitation may be removed soon - hopefully.
If I were you, I wouldn't give an open problem as example of what GoTools can solve.

It does now.
Thomas Wolf's home page: http://www.qmw.ac.uk/~ugah006/gotools/t.wolf.html
GoTools' home page: http://lie.math.brocku.ca/gotools
GoTools -- the Tsume-Go program: http://www.qmw.ac.uk/~ugah006/gotools
GoTools applet: Please don't link to http://lie.math.brocku.ca/gotools/applet_en.html (english version). Better link to http://lie.math.brocku.ca/gotools/applet.html (international version) - it will automatically load resources for the user's language, if a translation is available. Translation to french, german, polish, japanese, korean, chinese (mainland and Taiwan) exist. Some languages may not work unless you have properly configured fonts and Java Runtime Environment.
