Re: computer-go: Stages of the Go game

There are stages. The Opening/fuseki is spreading stones around and
playing joseki to get even results in the corner. The middle game is large
scale fighting, invasions etc. The endgame is after all groups are stable
to finalize the borders.

Many Faces does not try to determine the stage of the game.

Hi again :o)

As I've said in previous mails I'm working on a Go program as a final
year project. Perhaps foolishly I'm not a regular Go player (it seems to
me that most Go developers were fans of the game before programmers).

Anyway, my new question is:

I've read papers about endgame techniques etc., are there specific
start, middle, and end stages in a Go game? Do any of the current Go
programmes try to determine what stage a game is at and base their AI on
the stage the game is at?

Thanks again,
Conor
