Science has two basic approaches:
1) fundamental theoretical study
2) immediately practically useful study

That you do not believe in (1) does not mean that everybody shares
your belief. In fact, I disagree.

5 centuries later people might have the opposing opinion. In 
principle, (1) can be very mighty. Even if it requires much,
hard study in the beginning, in the end it can turn out to be
much more efficient than (2). CG is related to mathematics, where
(1) has proven to be much more efficient than (2).

Hence it is good if some of us do enjoy studying (1).
