Most programs implement Ing rules and Japanese rules, since the Ing
Foundation sponsored
a major tournament using Ing rules, and FOST sponsored a major tournament
with Japanese
rules. Ing is a nice ruleset since it uses Chinese counting so there is no
penalty for playing extra
moves at the end of the game, but its ko rules are difficult to understand.
