Can someone please give an example of when a suicide is a good move

Say your opponent has a three-in-a-row eye space, and you have a stone
at both edge points, like this:
O _ O
If you play in the center point:
O O O
It is suicide, so now your opponent's got a three-in-a-row empty eye
space:
_ _ _
And he must play the vital center point in order to make life. The end
result is the same, in terms of points, but the suicide can be used as
a ko threat.
