there is a lot of code out there that reads sgf. there is 
http://www.gnu.org/software/gnugo/gnugo.html for reading if you like c and 
a  fair amount of stuff in java if you google for "java sgf reader". spec 
info at http://www.red-bean.com/sgf/ as well as a mailing list.  Jago is 
doing some xml: http://www.rene-grothmann.de/jago/Documentation/xml.html
