SOAP helps pay for my mortgage as well :)
SOAP has it's applications.
IMHO SOAP/XML replacing the GTP is probably not one of them.

imho asking for XML as a basis for go software communication is based on the following reasoning:

1. XML 'appears' to carry with it a simple standardization not acheived with the GTP
2. XML 'appears' to simplify parsing when using an external library

1 depends upon 2 to be 'simple'.
2 creates a software dependancy for all go software(s)

the problem I see with the whole argument is that use of an XML based protocol only simplifies
the *parsing* of the command/data. The software still must interpret and act on the command.
From what I've seen of GTP, the parsing aspect is simply not complicated
enough to justify such
steps.
