I've got three:

@misc{GO:Rivest93,
     author = "Ron Rivest",
       note = "Invited talk, Conference on Computational Learning Theory
               and Natural Learning Systems, Provincetown, MA",
      month = "September",
       year =  1993
}
% howpublished = "MIT Press",

@article{GO:Johnson97,
     author = {George Johnson},
      title = {To Test a Powerful Computer, Play an Ancient Game},
    journal = {The New York Times},
       note = {July 29, \newblock
               \path{http://www.cns.nyu.edu/~mechner/compgo/times/}},
      month = {July 29},
       year =  1997
}

@article{GO:Mechner98,
     author = {David A. Mechner},
      title = {All Systems Go},
      pages = {32--37},
    journal = {The Sciences},
     volume =  38,
     number =  1,
       note = {\path{http://www.cns.nyu.edu/~mechner/compgo/sciences/}},
       year =  1998
}

Rivest (1993) is the primary citation, but obscure - I have not been able
to verify whether the Rivest talk is in the proceedings (which are listed
as out of print at MIT Press), let alone what exactly he said. If anyone
on this list has these proceedings: could you check?

The other two are good articles that make the "grand challenge" argument.

Best,

- nic
