A CA  automatically uses  non-local information, it's  gets propogated
from generation to generation, greater and greater distances.

Whether this  information survives in  a usable form is  probably what
you are talking about.  

I don't expect great things from these experiments but this is how you
learn stuff  and there  is the hope  that you will  discover something
useful.

   After reading the rest of my inbox, I see we have some interesting 
   discussins going.  Good to see.

   I might as well throw my two cents in.  It seems like CA, by it's nature, is 
   going to have a hard time with non-local concepts.  How would a CA-based 
   engine (I assume it is really just a CA-based evaluation, correct me if I'm 
   wrong) take non-local features into account?
