Frank,

you misunderstood.  I never implied *you* were doing that (storing the
address part of the hash), all I'm saying is that *nobody* (at least
nobody with a computer science background) does that.

Our only disagreement is that for you not storing the address part seems
to be a great idea you had, for me it is just standard practice that
we teach to our students in their Data Structures & Algorithms class.
Both views are correct (it *is* a neat idea), the difference lies in
whether you've had that DS&A class or not.

Enough of that.  I'd much rather hear whether anyone on the list can
give Gunnar a good reason why we should care about Hamming distances...
