I'm the one that brought that up, but I can easily believe that GO
players are more humble than Chess players. I have met very few
humble Chess players (except for Vincent.)

If I actually did say players overestimate themselves, it's not
exactly what I meant. It's people in general who make god's out of
the top players, and it's the human race, especially western culture
that has an inflated view of human accomplishments and abilities.
Us humans have this arrogant awe of our own abilities.

Many of you will easily remember when "no chess computer would ever
beat a master at chess." And they didn't mean grandmaster, they meant
2200 ELO player. This wasn't the occasional stupid person saying
this, it was a widely held belief. It was USUALLY top chess players
who said this, the kind that would say to you, "I know more about this
than you do, so shut up."
