is it at all feasible to have human vs computer play in an event like
this? unfortunately this is an aga tournament and so there are a lot of
brain damaged rules,...

Running a computer-Go event is not difficult. The hardest bit may be
getting hold of computers for the programs to run on - if you can find a
sponsor to lend you these you are most of the way there.
In 1996 I allowed a computer program to enter the Oxford Go Tournament. It
was only there to make the numbers even - it played in those rounds in
which there would otherwise have been an odd number of players.
hmmm, if players did not show up maybe we could someone play instead of
getting a win.
Even so, I received some complaints about it, and was asked not to do
this again.
why did people complain? can you recall some of their reasons for being upset?
http://www.intelligentgo.org/en/computer-go/events/past.html lists past
computer Go tournaments.
wow, i had no idea that there were 4 last year.
thanks
