Yes, if your opponent does not show up you get the point. If there is
sufficient notice they may redo the pairings, but otherwise you are
penalized because your opponent is a bad sport.
You could win a tournament without having to play the last game if
your opponent pulls this, but in general players who are contention
for top places are highly motivated to appear. It is much more common
for lower finishing players to simply go home without playing their
last round. I always felt they should return a portion of the entry
fee to players who finish all their games, but they don't do this.

That's for the "odd" player. But what if the opponent does not show
up? This happens much more often, especially in later rounds.
