[computer-go] "First KGS Computer Go Tournament
The "First KGS Computer Go Tournament" is this Sunday. There are
details at http://kgs.kiseido.com/en_US/tournInfo.jsp?id=82, including
the schedule, and links to information on how to arrange for your
program to enter this tournament.
So far there are only five entrants, with only one from outside Europe.
I am not concerned about the lack of entrants from America. This event
is timed to be in the morning in Europe, in the evening in East Asia,
and in the night in America. This does not prevent Americans from
entering, they can set their bots running when they go to bed, leave
them running all night, and look at the results next morning. But I
understand that this is less interesting than watching them play live.
However I am disappointed that there are no entrants from Asia. I
cannot read Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, so I cannot easily find out
why this is. I know that there are plenty of Go-playing programs in
East Asia. I believe that some Japanese are subscribed to this group,
but I assume that many Japanese and other Asian Go programmers are
unaware of the existence of this event, or unable to read the
English-language instructions about how to prepare a bot to enter it.
If anyone can help me to improve this, I will be most grateful.
Meanwhile, it is not too late to enter. Entries can be accepted until a
few minutes before the event starts, at 08:00 G.M.T this Sunday.
