Such behavior is unreasonable for any unconditionally alive group
with (directly) capturable opponent stones in it's eyes. If these
cases are not restricted one side can force play to continue way too
long.
BTW, rules discussions are not helped with 'normal' situations. It's
the exceptional positions that cause the problems. Therefore to design
proper rules one needs to study the exceptional cases where one rule
set differs from another.
