Re. a simple question

I guess the reason behind this is that "I" could easily be confused with
Arabic number "1".
In British car registration system, "I", "O", "Z" and "V" are not used,
for they could be confused with "1" (one ), "0" (zero), "2" (two) and
"U" respectively. Here on Go board "O" is used for there is no "0"
(zero) in the system.
I might be wrong. Hope someone will correct me.
