Hi!
In a Romanian book about GO, the author, Gheorghe Paun (a person devoted
to logical games) said that the reason "I" doesn't appear is the
confusion with J. And I think it's a good reason: think of the players
who write their games on a championship. If within a normal text you
have difficulties to distinguish between I and J, in a game it is much
more difficult...
By the way, I think there is no connection between GO and English, so
the fact that "I" is a pronoun is not a reason at all.
