This sounds like a great idea!  We are using a Xilinx FPGA for a new image capture
and compression application for high speed check processing.  These chips are very
powerful and flexible and easy to use.   I think it would be a excellent fit for
Go hardware!  Someday...

But I'm still playing around with algorithms and concepts for computer Go as a
very part-time hobby.

David, with your expertise and resources, I'm surprised you haven't built custom
hardware to improve Many Faces - for tournaments anyway.
