The paper was published in 1976.  Before the Web.  Before TeX.  It is
quite possible that there *never* was an original text file; the
manuscript might have been typewritten, for instance, and it was
certainly typeset by the journal publisher.  

Someone somewhere might have run an OCR program over the tiff files;
that would lose the diagrams and (probably) the math formulae.
