Re: computer-go: SGF recording program for iPAQ
I've been reading about this stuff too. It looks super cool. But I'm
going to wait for one of the color linux based pocket PC's that are
about to hit the market.
The great thing about the new linux based machines is that they will
immediately start with a huge base of programmers, namely any linux
programmer in any computer language. And all the great tools are
non-proprietary and free.
The Sharp based PC is supposed to have a highly optimized version of
Java built in to it. They are claiming that JAVA on this machine is
several times faster than on anything currently out there, but I'm not
sure how to interpret this claim or whether to believe it. Anyway,
they seem to believe that JAVA will be the killer language for the
pocket linux device market.
When I get mine, I'll port MY GO program over.

Agenda has released a new PDA that runs on an embedded linux OS. It runs
X and you can cross-compile apps with GCC to run on the PDA. If there are
existing *nix desktop apps that meet your needs, you may just be able to
recompile them for this particular handheld.
I don't have one (yet), but have been reading some of the developer
threads and it seems like a pretty neat device for doing this sort of
thing (writing apps without having to learn a new handheld OS/GUI).
