computer-go: GoeMate is now 1st in 13x13-CGoT

Hi all,

on January 6, 2002 Jean-Pierre Vesinet wrote
"Computer go is progressing at the rate of continental drift. :-) "

I think everyone agrees that there is a grain of truth in this statement -
even my 13x13 Computer-Go Tournament is progressing very slowly...

But finally I just again updated my page (www.geocities.com/comp_go)
today with the new results
including the Go-program GOEMATE by Prof. Chen Zhixing, Guangzhou/ China
in the version of April 2001 (winner of 2001 Garosu Cup in Seoul/ Korea),
which seems to show very well, how much the continents have drifted
in the last few years:

GOEMATE 2001 won 17 of his first 24 games and with that
clearly takes the lead in my (still uncomplete) list of now 11 programs!

Second is THE MANY FACES OF GO and third are WULU and HANDTALK.

Please have a look at the games and tell me your opinion:
Does a tournament like this show the real playing strength of the
programs or is there still too much of luck and chance?
Is it possible that medium-board-games on 13x13 may give us already
a good rating list or would a 19x19-result look very different?
