computer-go: 7th CompOlymp. Maastricht July 5-11
Hi all,
closing date for entries is May 10, 2002!!!
======
Any participants for Go (19x19 and 9x9!) ?
I was a little bit shocked to see the entry-fees (why US$ - isnīt Maastricht a
town in EURope?) for professionals (see below) - are they meant to keep
professional programs out of the tournament... ???
But how will it be possible >>to find the strongest programs at each of the
games<< if professional programs do not participate?
Go "Professional" (Go4++) by M. Reiss seems to be one of the
if not the strongest of all Go programs (see my previous mail...)
here are again all the informations I could find ...

The CMG 7th Computer Olympiad
is a multi-games event in which all of the participants are computer programs.
The purpose is to find the strongest programs at each of the games, partly as an

For each game a 2002 tournament will take place provided that at least two
programs enter the tournament for that particular game. The detailed tournament

May 10, 2002.
Notification of entry acceptation will be given before June 1, 2002.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the leading programs in each
tournament. There will be no cash prizes.
The chess competition of the Computer Olympiad will be a special event, since it
is adopted by the ICCA as the 10th World Computer Chess Championship (WCCC
2002). Also the draughts competition will be special. We are in the preparation
of co-organising the Open Draughts World Championship on July 6 and 7 at the
Computer Olympiad. (...)
The Tournament Director of the Computer Olympiad will be Professor Jaap van den
Herik from the Computer Science Department of the Universiteit Maastricht.
The entry fees for the Olympiad are as follows:

"Amateur": programmers who have no commercial interest in their program, and
are not professional game programmers. Applications for amateur classification

Computer-Games Workshop - Call for Papers (Jos Uiterwijk)
During the 7th Computer Olympiad a workshop on computer games will be held,
on three evenings during July 6 to 10, starting at 8 p.m. Exact dates will be
announced as soon as possible. The organisation is in the hands of Jos
Uiterwijk, who also will act as the workshop chairman.
The workshop is a separate event. There is no entrance fee. Of course, all
participants of the Computer Olympiad are welcome but others not involved in the
Olympiad can also attend or submit contributions. All papers will be refereed to
see whether a contribution is on the right topic and of interest to the intended
audience. Contributions can be submitted in the form of an (extended) abstract
(two pages) or as a camera-ready paper not exceeding 10 pages. We also accept in
a special section of the proceedings papers published elsewhere, since our main
aim is to distribute ideas and knowledge on games and game playing.
Contributions will be published in an internal IKAT report (Institute for
Knowledge and Agent Technology) which will be made available at reproduction
costs to all participants. Copyright of the articles will stay with the authors.
Of course, it is encouraged that scientific papers are submitted to the ICGA
Journal after the workshop.
