Re: computer-go: Human move ID process survey...
I recall that Dr. Saito (I forget his first name) was doing some
interesting research in this area at NTT labs in Atsugi, Japan. I have
no idea if the work is continuing or what he is up to these days. Does
anybody know more?

Hi,
I'm doing some research into applying AI to Go and my thoughts have turned to how humans play and emulating them rather than how to make a computer play and then working from there.
What I really need is a broad but brief survey of the thought process Go players (of all ranks) go through when identifying the best move to play. For example I scan the board, identify groups in potential danger and look for local moves that intuitively feel right. I then work out a few sequences, a handful of moves deep and choose the move that appears to give the most profit whilst achieving the goal.
Of course this is a bit simplified but any insights any players can give me will be invaluable. So I'm appealing to anyone that has a moment to answer my query, any help will be much appreciated. Also can any respondants please state their rank (or guess if unknown).
P.S. I am cross posting this to rec.games.go also.
Cheers,
