[computer-go] Re: What is thought
Waldviertel-Hochland, 06.02.2004
Dear All,
There is a constant in thought-explanation since the Greek-time. Thought/the
human mind is always explained in the latest technology. E.g. the
chess-player of v.Kempelen (The Turk) was a mechanical device. The Turk was
a fake, but v.Kempelen used the believe of his time, that mind is just a
complicated mechanic device/clockwork.
Now the explanation is DNA, because this is the latest new technology.
Deep Blue was initionally called Chip-Test. This is the true motivation of
the author. It was never his intention to explain the human mind. He was not
even very interested in chess. In his book "Behind Deep Blue" Feng Hsu´s
opinion of AI is quite clear: "Bullshit".
In case of my own chess programm Brutus/Hydra the goal is beside playing
good chess to demonstrate the power of a new computing platform. The
combination of reconfigurable, fine grained parallelism with distributed
coarse-grained parallelism via Message Passing on a PC-Cluster. This has
also nothing to do with explaining the human mind. I really hate it, when
AI-people misuse our work for their bullshit. In principle they are working
like v.Kempelen with the lack of knowledge of most peoples (maybe it is also
their own lack of knowledge).
Progress in computer-chess really startet, when the programmers did not care
anymore about the AI-blabla and concentrated on their real goal. Just to
make a strong chess programm.
Best Regards
Chrilly Donninger
