As a future contestant, I prefer the GTP solution, but
the decision is for the organizer, what do they exactly want ?
If any organizer could answer me, I would be pleased.
I want more entrants, and happy entrants.
Requiring support of a protocol will deter entrants who don't feel able
to support it. It will also require me to bar entrants who have tried
to support it but got it wrong (most programs which claim to support GMP
sometimes get it wrong). I am not going to do either of those.
The protocol, and the cables of whatever kind that it goes along, are
not there for my convenience. They are there for the entrants'
convenience.
If someone is planning to enter an event that I am running, and asks me
which he should implement, GMP or GTP, for that event, I shall tell him
that he doesn't need either. If it seems helpful, I shall try to make
an estimate of the likely presence at the event of
the serial cables needed to run GMP
other programs successfully supporting GMP
other programs partially supporting GMP
the LAN and controller program needed to run GTP
other programs successfully supporting GTP
other programs partially supporting GTP
