RE: [computer-go] Re: Sharing Secrets

Wow, some number of posts I found in mymailbox today about sharing
secrets!!!

In my opinion there has always been a fair share of exchange of ideas in the
computer-go community. Claiming that the people who make money with their
program don't share their ideas is simply false.
This I think I can say with some authority. I didn't make a million USD with
my program, but well over half that amount in the years I did go-programming
for a living. And I've always shared lots of ideas. I think David can
confirm.

The main problem is that Go programmers (and people reading this
mailing-list) are very stubborn and think they know better than everybody
else. Some years ago I published a library with some of my most important
'trade-secrets' with the intention of publishing more later. The silence was
deafening. The only response I got was from a few people complaining it all
didn't work because they didn't care to look at it properly. Maybe not
surprising I gave the follow-up a miss?

Only recently I learned that MadLab benefited from this library somehow, so
I'm glad the effort was not completely lost.

But don't come here saying people don't share their knowledge. I'd say,
don't waste my time and start sharing your own ideas if you think that's
important.
