Yeah... I found this thread interesting for a while and appreciated to see the input from chess programmers. However, a discussion about the relative merits of C and Java is definitely off-topic and computer languages have already been discussed at length on this list. I would guess that for most of us game programming is a hobby or a research interest, and using our preferred tools is part of the fun. This is not a place where advocacy is likely to change anybody's mind.
