Since there's much more incentive for Go software in the Asian market, it
would of course make perfect sense if the best software was made there too.
I've always been a bit bewildered why it took so long...

Could you give us a pointer to this software, Houman? Any available online?

How about computer-Go competitions? Are Asian programs getting prevalent
there too? I can't remember seeing anything like that posted, but it's quite
possible that they don't need to enter these competitions. They certainly
hardly ever post anything here, which I suspect is partly a language issue.
That is a pity of course.
