A perhaps simpler solution is to use Gmane (<http://www.gmane.org/)
It's a bidirectional mailing-list to news gateway that works quite
well. To get the list hosted on Gmane all somebody needs to do is fill
out their subscription form at <http://gmane.org/subscribe.php>. Gmane
has various anti-spam features that seem to work--I never see spam on
the other lists I read via Gmane. It also has the nice feature of
keeping an archive so when new readers come to the list via Gmane they
can catch up with as much of the history as they care to. There are
two ways to access Gmane hosted groups--through their news (NNTP)
server and via the web. I imagine both would work for folks anywhere
on the planet as Gmane's anti-spam foo seems to be mostly based on
sending you an email to confirm you're actually a person the first
time you post to a particular group. Finally, they support an optional
feature of "address encryption" so participant's email addresses
aren't exposed to the world via the web archive.

I'd be happy to fill out the form unless someone has some strong
objection.
