I pretty much agree with what Petri says. But I would like to take up a couple of points. There are quite abundle of other considerations:I hope to eventually be able to compete in a tournament because I think that the computer Go world does not benefit if strong programs are excluded due to a forced forfeit on time. Just trying to plant a seed for a future tournament.
- 5 round tournament with 2 hours/player woudl need a scheduling of 4,5 hours for a round max 2/rounds/day and last for three days. Of if participants are willing to extend one day for 12 hours two days
- With 1 hout per clock tournament can be run in one day (with one Loong day) or two days max.
- Two hours/player is not interesting for the group that eventually would play against these programs. These tournaments are also - to small degree perhaps - a chance for commercial programs to show what they are goodd for
Solution would be a online tournament using NNGS/IGS/KGS as place of venue. Such a tournament would not have monetary rewards probably as cheating is little bit too easy.
