I am not involved in developing a program, never have been, and never
will be. I have run some computer Go tournaments, and expect to run one
as part of the European Go Congress in Prague this summer.
At present I am planning on organising regular computer Go tournaments
on KGS, using the automated tournament system that is being developed
there. The first such computer tournament will be a test of the system,
and therefore will use small boards and fast time limits, so that if it
all goes wrong the participants won't have wasted too much time. The
settings I currently envisage are:
Swiss tournament
4 rounds
9x9 boards
10 minutes each sudden death
Chinese rules
Start time 20:00 GMT on a Wednesday - this is 15:00 Eastern
Time, 12:00 Pacific Time, and 07:00 Thursday in Japan.
I might be persuaded to change any of this.
I would like to see a variety of entrants. Most of the bots that
currently play on KGS are derived from GnuGo, so I will particularly
welcome any others.
This will not only test KGS's automated tournament system, it will test
the competitors' compatibility with it.
The BoardSpace server http://www.boardspace.net/english/ has recently
been set up specifically for bots to play on. I hope that KGS and
BoardSpace will not be seen as rivals, and that people will get their
programs to connect to both.
